WorldView Broadcast Media Scheme Live Pitch Event

One World Media, DFG and WorldView Broadcast Media Scheme present:

LIVE PITCH EVENT as part of One World Media Week

Deadline for applications: 12 noon on Friday 4th June 2010

During One World Media Week we are inviting new or emerging filmmakers to consider what it means to share ‘One World’.

Films can make a difference to how we view the world. If you have an idea for a film that you think could help people understand global poverty then you could be given the chance to shoot a film in the developing world. The film would be broadcast in the UK on Community Channel.

As part of One World Media’s New Talent Day, and in partnership with the Documentary Filmmakers Group on 23rd June, the WorldView Broadcast Media Scheme is offering a bursary, worth up to £8000, to a new or emerging documentary filmmaker who could gain the chance to experience making a short film overseas.

We’ll be running a live pitch event to decide which film proposal will receive funding – and for all of the filmmakers short-listed, there will also be a one-day pitching workshop led by top international pitching trainer, Christina Burnett, to give new filmmakers a chance to learn the all important skill of making a good pitch.

What are we looking for?

WorldView, DFG and One World Media are looking for creative proposals that explore the theme of ‘Poverty in the developing world’. We are particularly keen to hear new ideas that focus on the links and connections that exist between people around the world that can help us get a fresh perspective on poverty.

Your film idea could highlight a relationship that keeps some people in poverty or it might be an inspirational story about how others have been able to change their lives and rise out of poverty. It’s possible that your film might focus on aspects of poverty that are shared in both richer and poorer nations. Your film might involve some elements that are shot in the UK, but it must involve travel to a developing country as well.

Proposals should be for films of up to 20 minutes duration, and will be produced for broadcast on Community Channel. Six to eight filmmakers will be selected to pitch their ideas in front of an industry panel at One World Media’s New Talent Day on Wednesday 23rd June, 2010 in London – please check oneworldmedia.org.uk for full details and location.

How to apply

Potential applicants should email derek@oneworldmedia.org.uk with a maximum one page proposal for their documentary, headed by their name and full contact details (postal address, email and phone contact). You should also attach a current CV.

For enquiries, please email the address above, or call 020 7922 7943.
