Who won at Sheffield Doc/Fest 2010?

DFG have returned from their trip up north to Sheffield Doc/Fest 2010. It was quite an event and as always the festival celebrates the best of the years programme with an award ceremony. The judges are an array of industry professional and the awards are broken down into particular categories, including the relevatively new Green Award, Youth Award and of course, Special Jury Award. The Wellcome trust pitch this year was won by Emma George and Andrew Brown, one of our very own DFG members! Kim Longinotto stole the show winning two awards, for Pink Saris and another for her continued excellence in the field of documentary.
Award winners for this year included:
Special Jury Award
Kim Longinotto’s 'Pink Saris' with special mention to Patricio Guzman’s 'Nostalgia for the Light'.
The BT Vision Sheffield Innovation Award
Clio Barnard for 'The Arbor', a biography of Yorkshire playwright Andrea Dunbar.
The Jury also gave special mention to Philippe Brault and David Dufresne’s Prison Valley, an investigation into the American penal system.
Sheffield Green Award
Floris-Jan van Luyn’s 'Rainmakers'.
A special Mention went to Michael Madsen’s 'Into Eternity'.
Sheffield Youth Jury Award - 16-21.
The Sheffield Youth Jury Award was awarded to Laura Fairrie’s The 'Battle for Barking'
A special mention went to Gemma Atwal’s Marathon Boy.
Student Doc Award
Will Woodward’s 'No Easy Time', which focuses on Therapeutic Community.

The WorldView Pitch
Joint winners! - David Lale and Lovejit Dhaliwal both won 8-10k each. David Lale's film idea is about a self-publishing newspaperman in Monrovia, and Lovejit Dhaliwal's pitch was for a doc looking at how poor families in India find themselves struggling to care for both elderly parents and children.
The Current TV Series Pitch
According to the audience "clappometer" vote War Junkies from Orlando van Einsiedel came up tops.
